Mt. Vernon - Wednesday General Program

New Intentions for the New Year

January 14
Wednesday ~ 7:00 - 8:30pm

We know that there will be many problems to face in the new year. The New Year gives us an opportunity to prepare our mind. With the right intention we can learn to transform our problems into our spiritual training. In this way we can go into the new year fearlessly, knowing we are going to use whatever comes our way as a way to improve our own and others' happiness.

A Meaningful Life

January 21 - February 4
Wednesday ~7:00 - 8:30pm

We should consider how our human life is precious, rare, and very meaningful. With this life, we can accomplish the highest spiritual attainments, but we don’t know how much longer this opportunity will last. Therefore, we must use every day to overcome our negativity and cultivate good inner qualities. Recommended reading: Transform Your Life.

Overcoming Fear

February 11 - 25
Wednesday ~7:00 - 8:30pm

What happens to us after we die? We must leave our body and be reborn in a new one, like a bird leaving one nest and flying to another. By relying on Buddha’s teachings and receiving help from spiritual friends, or Sangha, we can protect ourselves from future suffering and ensure the happiness of future lives. Recommended reading: New Meditation Handbook.
